As the pandemonium of Covid-19 begins to fade into the background and whilst many of us prepare to have our second booster, the widespread effects from the global pandemic are still vividly being felt by young people today. Sophia Garlick Bock’s short reflective piece, featured
within this month’s issue, highlights the mental impact which Covid-19 is continuing to have on today’s youth, and is an exceptional portray of how many members of society have been and currently are feeling.
Covid-19 has undoubtably affected us all, and children are no exception to this. An article by Temple et al, found towards the middle of this newsletter, shows the sheer impact that closing school had on adolescent development, substance misuse and mental wellbeing. Those of you wishing to learn more about the effects of Covid-19 on young people’s health should check out both Temple et al’s article, as well as the study by Bottle et al.
Following Aliese’s introduction last month, I thought I would tell you a few things about myself. I’m Lauren, the new Student Rep who is taking over from Francesca. I am currently in my 5th of 6 years, having completed my pre-clinical years at the University of St Andrews, before moving to Manchester where I am currently based.
I’m excited for the upcoming months, especially the Adolescent Health Conference in November
– be sure to book some study leave for then!
All the best,
Lauren (student rep)
